I was really excited about going to Brooklyn Social–for the 20 minutes or so in which I made my decision to go. I was literally at Clover Club, trying to figure out how to keep the party going, and I used my Foursquare list to find the closest place on Smith Street with a happening vibe. Well, in this instance, Foursquare fooled me.
It’s not that this place was VU Bar, but it wasn’t what I was expecting either. Somehow Foursquare had this place as trending on Smith Street at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. So I thought I was going to be walking into a place where the party was already popping, and Brooklyn Social was far from it. I think there was 1 other person in there at the time, but that person may or may not have been working there, so I’m not sure.
My friends and I tried to make the best of it and got 1 or 2 drinks. The drinks weren’t bad, so I’ll give them credit for that. Brooklyn Social is a cocktail bar, and from what I could tell, they do cocktails well, so I’m no knocking them all the way.
They also have a nice little space outback that we enjoyed while we were there. Still, it was a little too quiet for a Saturday afternoon. Unless you really like to drink your cocktails in the serenity of an empty bar, then Brooklyn Social probably isn’t your place. To its credit though, I hear it that it may be a little livelier on Saturday nights, so maybe I’ll give it another shot the next time I’m out that way.
