Die Stammkneipe/Der Schwarze Kolner (DSDSK) was a venue that I had not originally planned on visiting this summer, but I wound up having a very good evening and night here nonetheless.

DSDSK is located in Forte Greene, Brooklyn, and upon getting there around 7pm on a Friday, I could tell that it was certainly a beloved entity among the locals. I arrived at DSDSK for a friend’s birthday celebration. When I learned that it was a biergarten (because my educated-behind couldn’t decipher that from the name), I was slightly disappointed because I am not a beer drinker of any sorts. To my recollection, they did have a bar with liquor, but it certainly wasn’t all that apparent, and nobody in the establishment was drinking liquor. So when in Rome…

Forced to choose a beer, I somehow decided upon a Pilsner. I don’t know if it was the price, the description or the good-looking waitress who suggested it to me, but I went with it, and I was actually quite happy with what I had ordered. So happy, that I have since made the Pilsner a go-to when I have to choose a beer at a beer-snob venue (see Flatiron Hall).

As the night carried on, my continuous consumption of Pilsners led to a very strong desire for food. Being the biergarten that it was, DSDSK was very equipped to quench my hunger with a variety of German staples. You could choose form brats, obazda, brezels, weißwurst and several other German. I had a variety of sausages for the rest of the night, which made the consumption of those tasty pilsners that much better and easier.

All things said, DSDSK is definitely a great, casual spot for a nice simple night out with friends. There’s no music poppin’, people dancing or droves of sexy individuals coming there looking for the next score. Instead, it’s a nice, neighborhood establishment with plenty of locals there just looking to have a chill time. So if you live nearby in Fort Greene, or plan to be in the area, come by as soon as you can. Although, I definitely recommend checking it out during the summer, when you can sit outside and take advantage of the “neighborhoody” feel you get from being at this fine establishment.
