I can’t believe it took me this long to end up at the Press Lounge Rooftop. Of course, my hesitation in going there probably had something to do with the fact that it’s located in the middle of what most New Yokers have to come know as “nowhere.” Actually, it’s in Hell’s Kitchen, but it’s as far away from the thriving restaurant row and theaters as one can be and still call itself in Hell’s Kitchen.

Nonetheless, you can go to other classy venues and more central locations throughout Manhattan, but you would find it difficult to beat the wonderousness (I made that word up) of Press Lounge.

The place is absolutely amazing. You get a wonderful view of the river, the rest of Manhattan (both north and south), and the New Jersey Coastline–if that can be considered wonderful.

The rooftop itself is stacked with plush chairs, attentive service and an out-of-towner/in-the-know crowd that is usually unique to some over expensive hotel bar in SoHo. You also get the beautiful water fixture you see in the picture atop this blog piece, which looks even more amazing at night. Of course, all of this comes at a price. The drinks here will run you quite a bit, so make sure whatever special person or occasion brings you to Press Lounge is paying for Press Lounge!

I happened to go to Press Lounge Rooftop and the restaurant downstairs (PRINT). It’s not exactly the best restaurant in the world, but it did well for brunch, and I have nothing to complain about in terms of the food. In fact, they offer up some interesting combinations and appetizers, including a Maple Bacon Sticky Bun and Fettuccine with Veal Bolognese. And I don’t say this often, but the service was impeccable. You will not have any problems with the waitstaff if you go here.

Anyway, if you are ever up for a “classy” night out, Press Lounge Rooftop is the place to do it–especially if you have not done it before. I kind of, sort of want to have my 30th birthday party here, but that would be imitating the likes of my host from this time around. So I won’t do it then, but trust your boy, I will be back to Press Lounge again and soon.
